How To Beat The Computer Blues

Many older workers must learn their jobs all over again when computer-based technologies come into the workplace. Others who have lost their jobs must improve their computer know-how to get another position.

Studies show that no one is too old to learn how to run a computer, but some people are afraid of the new technology, particularly if they don't have an interest or aptitudes in math or science.

But you don't have to be a rocket scientist to learn a computer program. In fact, working on a computer is a lot like operating a car. Chances are you're not a mechanic, but you still know how to drive. Similarly, you don't have to be a computer whiz to work on a computer.

What you need to know are the rules of the computer "road": how to use a keyboard, how to find your way through a computer menu, how to make the software program work for you. These skills aren't hard to learn, they're just different from the skills you may have acquired in the past.

And it helps to be positive and remember that computers have a lot of advantages over cars. You don't need a license to run one. You won't get parking tickets. They don't guzzle gas. And, if you drive along the information superhighway, it'll be the safest trip you'll ever take!
